Occult Themes at Notre Dame Cathedral

It was not surprising to learn that some disturbing occult motifs have been integrated into the newly-restored Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. While much of the restoration was entirely in keeping with its historic past and Catholic tradition, the innovations are startling enough to make us wonder what role the church is meant to play in the ongoing destruction of the Catholic Faith.

The Phoenix

The first motif sets the scene for the rest of the tour: the rooster which once sat atop the Cathedral has been replaced by the phoenix, an occult symbol. Most are familiar with the Greek myth of the phoenix rising from the ashes, but as a symbol, it is far older, originating in the mystery religions of ancient Egypt. Several pagan religions have used the phoenix to represent transformation and renewal including the Native American Thunderbird, Russian Firebird, and Chinese Fèng Huáng.

Some occultists go further, equating the phoenix with Lucifer: venerating him as the angel who fell into the flames and will one day rise again to rule the earth. Arch-occultist, Aleister Crowley wrote a sacrilegious Thelemic ritual called the ‘Mass of the Phoenix,’ and the phoenix is also employed in Masonic symbolism.

The phoenix motif is one that has been repeated many times of late, most notably in the case of Trump ‘rising up’ from the injury sustained during his assassination attempt (which possibly foreshadowed his ‘rising up’ to be re-elected as President.)

Notre Dame under reconstruction

The symbolism of the phoenix has not been lost on the media, with outlets entitling their reports on the Cathedral’s reopening in terms of ‘Phoenix from the Ashes’ and similar headlines. The bird’s designer, the Chief Architect of the project, Philippe Villeneuve, certainly had this theme in mind. He describes his creation as the rooster ‘reimagined’ to represent a phoenix carrying the ‘fire of resurrection’ to Notre Dame. In a very telling comment, Villeneuve explained that the design process was “so intense he might have to speak to his “therapist” about it.”

The Liturgical Furnishings

The ‘phoenix from the ashes’ theme was taken up by a writer interviewing Guillaume Bardet, the sculptor of Notre Dame’s creepy liturgical furnishings: the altar, lectern, cathedra with seats, tabernacle, and baptistery.

Bardet’s explanation of bronze, his material of choice, sounds like the fascination of an alchemist: ” it looked like a liquid sunshine filled with an extraordinary presence like a mysterious energy emanating from the bottom of the earth.”

Bardet reveals that, strangely, even before the fire, he had already come up with designs for Notre Dame:

In April 2019, I was finalizing my previous exhibition at [a French gallery] when Notre-Dame started going up in flames. In front of me was a large bronze table I had called The Last Supper : it was surrounded by twelve bronze stools, each named after an apostle. The opening evening, a few friends joked (seriously) that I had designed Notre-Dame’s future altar. When Notre-Dame called for creative projects, I felt legitimate to apply. Most of the objects and furniture I had in mind; some of them I had even sketched years before.

By sheer coincidence, the Chief Architect, whose brainchild was the rooster-come-phoenix mentioned above, had also had dreams of building Notre Dame: he made a model of the cathedral as a child.

In another article, Bardet exposes the Masonic, ecumenical agenda behind his designs, which also contains overtones of so-called ‘Synodality’:

‘They should resonate with conviction for Catholics and captivate the attention of non-Christians. Each element carries its own distinct identity, symbolism, and purpose, yet together they form a cohesive ensemble that engages in a meaningful dialogue.

An article on the restoration, written by a traditional Catholic, sheds some light on the theology underpinning the changes. Rita Stewart notes the connection between several ambiguous Vatican II documents and Bardet’s designs and explains his desire to “remove everything that is not necessary, and to arrive at the essential, and so the essential is that it is poor.” This sounds very much like the philosophy which gave us the Catacombs Pact.

Stewart also notes that the baptistery has the form of a circle with a central point – a classic Masonic/occult symbol.

The Vestments

The clown-like vestments worn by clergy at the Opening Mass are the ongoing focus of jokes and memes. Was their inclusion meant to point to some sort of humiliation ritual for the Catholic Church? They certainly gave the impression of something that cannot be taken seriously. Then, what can be expected from sa designer who has created costumes for Illuminists like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé or Katy Perry?

According to the designer, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, his vestments represent “the rebirth of Notre Dame,” harking back to the phoenix’s theme of transformation.

The Reliquary

In a similar way, the reliquary for the Crown of Thorns makes a joke of Catholicism. It is extremely tacky, not worthy of its role as a backdrop to a true relic of the Passion. Described by Rita Stewart as looking like ‘target practice at a shooting range’, the sculpture is completely out of place – except perhaps to the occultists. For them, the renovations obviously have a far darker meaning than anything that can be surmised here.

Let us pray for France, the first daughter of the Church, that She does indeed experience a re-birth, in the form of a return to traditional Catholicism.

The Cross and the Occult

Most of the information in this article is taken from the book ‘The Secret Teachings of all Ages’ by Manly P. Hall, the 20th century occultist. click here to purchase your copy of this valuable reference book.

Ancients revered the cross

According to modern occultists, the cross was associated in pre-Christian times with nature-worship. The Aztecs, Toltecs and American Indians are among those who believed the cross had mystical powers. Eastern religions also incorporated the cross into their symbology, while to the Pythagoreans, the number 10, signified by an X, was sacred. The cross is also revered by the Illuminati, Rosicrucians and Alchemists who believe that it symbolises light.

The Tau or Tav Cross
Crux Ansata
Triple Tau

There are three main types of cross: the Tau; the Crux Ansata; and the Christian cross.

The Tau (Tav) Cross

The Tau cross looks like the modern capital ‘T’ and occultists believe it may have originated among the ancient Egyptians. It is believed to be the oldest form of cross and is sometimes referred to as a ‘hammer’ cross. In Kabbala-Masonry, Tubal-Cain presents a hammer in the form of a Tau cross to Hiram Abiff and this symbol is preserved in Freemasonry as the T-square. This cross has multiple forms among the occult groups, such as the Royal Arch of Freemasonry’s Triple Tau.

The Crux Ansata

The Crux Ansata, also known as the ‘cross of life’, is a Tau cross topped by a circle. Some occultists believe this form of cross is connected to a legend about St. Peter’s ‘golden key’ which gives entry to heaven. Occultists from the Egyptian mystery school revere this form of cross as having power over evil, going so far as to co-opt the words of Constantine, in hoc signo vinces. (‘in this sign I will conquer’ – a reference to the vision God granted to the pagan Constantine ensuring his victory in battle if he used Christ’s cross on his banners.)

To the occultist and pagan, the Crux Ansata is generally associated with water.

The Roman and Greek Catholic Crosses

This is the cross used by Christians to represent Christ’s death; however, occultists do not necessarily believe that Our Lord died on this form of cross.

Christian Cross

Occultists acknowledge the importance of the cross to the Christian: that it is a symbol of Christ’s sacrifice while also representing their own hardships in life. But they posit that the sacrificial aspect derives from antiquity, believing that to many ancient civilisations, the cross symbolised the equinoxes and solstices, when the sun was ‘crucified’ in astronomical terms.

Other occultists, unable to attribute Christianity’s popularity to Its intrinsic Truth, claim that the widespread adoption of the cross by Christians is only evidence that it was a highly important symbol to pagans. They point to the Southern Cross constellation, associated with seasonal rainfall and so revered by pagan civilisations, as proof of man’s inherent attraction to the cross as a symbol. The high-level Freemason, Albert Pike, taught that the four letters placed at the top of Christ’s cross during His crucifixion, are connected to the four elements which the Kabbala represents in a cruciform symbol.

Other Significant Ideas about Crosses

Occultists find significance in the fact that a cube can be opened to form a cross. (Image source here)

To the occultist, the cross within a circle may be either a symbol for the planet Earth, or for the element ‘earth’, because it is formed by four triangles representing the four elements.

Alchemists used a cross to symbolise the four constituents of the Philosopher’s Stone, and Freemasons also revere this form of the cross.

Other alchemy symbols which contain crosses.

Composition of Crosses

To the occultist, the composition of a cross is highly significant. A golden cross signifies illumination; a silver cross symbolises purification; a base metal cross symbolises humiliation; a wooden cross represents aspiration.

The cross is sometimes said to symbolise the human body due to the practise of those people who extend their arms while in prayer. The Kabbala, which identifies four natures of man (physical, vital, emotional and mental), relates each nature with one of the four elements, thus adding another layer to its association of the cross with the four elements.

New Age/Occult Symbols

unless otherwise noted, this information is Taken from ‘The Hidden dangers of the rainbow’ by Constance Cumbey.

The New Age Movement has several important symbols for identification and mystical (hypnotic) use. They are not all used simultaneously, but all are in current use within the Movement.

The Rainbow

(also called the Antahkarana or Rainbow Bridge)/ This is used an a hypnotic device. They also call it an ‘International Sign of Peace.’ They claim they are building a rainbow bridge between the personality (you) and the over-soul or Great Universal Mind (literally Sanat Kumara, i.e., Lucifer!) See Isaiah 24:5 which states that one reason the Lord is destroying the earth in the latter days is for breaking the everlasting covenant. The rainbow is the sign of the everlasting covenant according to Genesis, chapter 9.

The Triangle

The information in this section comes from Tradition in Action.

The triangle is an ancient symbol venerated since pagan times, as representing the harmonious balance of Earth, Sky and Sea. Although they were misguided in their interpretation, their reverence for the triangle reveals some truth that God placed in the human understanding, which reached its plenitude in the Holy Catholic Church.

An eye was sometimes added to the center of the triangle to symbolize God’s omniscience as the all-seeing Father watching over His creatures through His Divine Providence, as expressed in the Holy Scriptures: “Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear Him: and on them that hope in His mercy.” (Ps. 32:18)

At right. Eye of Providence on the gallery of St. Gallus Church in Kappel, Germany. The eye of God is also a reminder that, “the eyes of the Lord in every place behold the good and the evil.” (Prov. 15:3) And so, trying to destroy God’s Holy Church the Devil has attempted to mock His omniscience by setting up his own secret societies that fight against the Church.

Kappel eye

New Age/Occult Symbols

Freemasonry stole the symbolism of the eye in the triangle from the Church and adopted it to symbolize the “Supreme Architect of the Universe” and “bestower of light.”

The “light,” which their “Architect” proposes to bestow on his initiates is the light of Gnosis, that pretense secret knowledge that masonry reserves for select members who pass into the higher Orders. The real “god” of the Masons is Lucifer, their Architect who enables the enlightened Masons to become architects of a new world based on equality, fraternity and liberty.

But despite all of their efforts, they themselves are ever under the power and eyes of the Holy Trinity. Their true wretchedness will be made manifest at the Day of Doom: “Behold the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth.” (Amos 9:8)

As Above, So Below

This article will look at the principle quod est superius est sicut quod inferius, et quod inferius est sicut quod est superius, meaning “that which is above is like to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above”, often shortened to “as above, so below”. It will also examine a gesture used by occultists which embodies the principle.

In his work, The Mystery of Iniquity, Pierre Virion states that the “as above, so below” principle is a false analogy which is at heart anti-Christic: “Illuminism and the theogony (stories of the gods) of the sects thus lead to an inversion of the data of revelation and consequently of Catholic theology.”

Thus transformation or regeneration is evil when it relies on occult means rather than on the graces flowing from Christ’s Redemption. For the proud occultist, however, transformation and enlightenment without Jesus Christ are desired, and he believes they are achieved by the recognising and balancing of opposing forces.

This well-known image of the demon Baphomet comes from the 1856 book, Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie, Volume 2 by Éliphas Levi.

Levi, a French occultist of the 19th century, greatly influenced Saint-Yves d’Alveydre, the founder of Synarchy.

Levi’s depiction embodies the principle of duality, reconciling opposites such as light and dark, male and female, spiritual and material. Baphoment, known to traditional Catholics as the demon of fornication, is androgynous and holds its hands in opposing directions in the familiar “as above, so below” formation. One explanation of the gesture is that it “signifies the flow of spiritual knowledge and the grounding of that knowledge in the material world.” The occultist believes that by using this gesture he can balance the opposing forces surrounding him.

A detail from the Redemptoris Mater chapel, created by the disgraced artist, Fr. Marco Rupnik. Christ is depicted with hands in the “as above, so below” configuration. Pope John Paul II can be seen in the background.

The principle of duality is found in a number of occult traditions such as Hermeticism and Kabbalism. In Hermeticism, the “as above, so below” represents the macrocosm (the universe) reflecting the microcosm (the individual). The Kabbalah applies a similar meaning, using the dualistic principle of the Macroprosopus and the Microprosopus (the great world and the small world). In Alchemy, this duality represents transformation, both of base metal into a precious metal and of man through spiritual enlightenment.

The characteristics of the god Baphomet with his up-down” gesture are said to be shared by the god, Baal. Baal is known as the demon responsible for promoting abortions.

This link is an interesting one given the video compilation shown in the Tweet below. In it, one finds the ultra-pro-abort Kamala Harris repeating variations of a specific phrase, accompanied by the “as above, so below” hand gesture. Harris’ gestures and repetition of the phrase, “what can be, unburdened by what has been”, are reminiscent of a witch performing an incantation.

The principle of “as above, so below” is also found in Freemasonry where it has particular significance. It refers to the presence of the Divine in both the spiritual and physical worlds and emphasises their interconnectedness. Masonry also includes the explicitly Hermetic idea that the spiritual realm is reflected in the physical realm and vice versa. Another application of the principle is found in the Masonic obligation of each human being to maintain balance and harmony, especially as expressed through Masonry’s tolerance of various creeds.

The “as above, so below” theme is found in three of Masonry’s integral symbols: the square and compass; the hexagram, also known as the Seal of Solomon; and Jacob’s Ladder.

This quote from a Freemason, explaining how Masonry’s rituals reference the “as above, so below” principle, point to a diabolical inversion of the Catholic Mass:

Bergoglio’s false Mary, Undoer of Knots.

Some information new to this website from the well-known Italian journalist, Andrea Cionci. Cionci wrote it a couple of years ago – the entire article can be read here. As readers of this site are aware, I am not wont to call Francis an anti-Pope or usurper: in my opinion he can inflict similar damage on the Church whether legitimately elected as Pope, or illegitimately. Cionci makes no secret of his opinion and has written an entire book on the subject – but that is not the theme of the present article.

Andrea Cionci has apparently held reservations about the devotion to Our Lady, Undoer of Knots for some time. He claims that it is based on an spell, known variously as the Witch’s Knot, Magic of the Nine Knots, or Magic Ladder. Cionci also says that it was Bergoglio who began to spread this devotion in the ’80’s. I can’t speak to that, but agree that the image shown here is quite bizarre.

The image, which is not a painting but a bas-relief, was presented to Pope Francis by the President of Argentina, Christina Fernandez de Kirchner, in 2015. Closeups of the image came from here and show some disturbing details.

For example, “Mary” is depicted with a bare shoulder: something never seen in images of the Most Holy Mother of God, who is the epitome of modesty. She is surrounded by five-pointed stars rather than the traditional six-pointed ones. The angel offends against decency & metaphysics: although angels are pure spirits and therefore without gender, this one is shown with bare breasts.

Cionci points out that the foot of “Mary” does not crush the serpent’s head, but is at best, not touching it, and at worse, caressing it. And as seen in the main photograph, the snake itself is tied in a knot.

According to Cionci, the snake-loving, anti-Mary figure resembles the occult figure, Lilith – these days a feminist icon of sexual domination and originally known in Jewish mysticism as the first wife of Adam. Lilith is often linked with the moon and is also associated with snakes. She is said to be responsible for inflicting illness or death on newborn babies. She is also associated with adultery and lust, showing another link with the “Witch’s Knot” which is tied to reproduction and fertility.

It is all very strange. And President Kirchner? After her meeting with the Pope, she exclaimed to the waiting journalists that she felt “illuminated from within” !!

Melbourne schools rebrand with a Masonic touch?

The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools or “MACS”, as they so irritatingly like to be called, has announced a rebrand complete with a new logo. The last rebrand was only two years ago so it boggles the mind to consider how such an expensive folly can be justified.

They could at least have come up with something original like “Gene Serum Fanatics” or the “mRNA Club” or more honestly, “Agnostics-R-Us”. (A selling point might be that children graduating from their system will be completely resistant to traditional Catholicism.)

According to the MACS spokesperson, its mission is “to proclaim the Good News and enlighten the lives” of students. Because Melbourne AD employees just love to talk about light and darkness. They even have a “manifesto”, which must be the new-fangled version of a mission statement, which was the old new-fangled version of an organisation’s “purpose.”

Read it for yourself – does the “Manifesto” not sound a little ….. vague and New Age?

Last time I checked, it was God’s Word that is “a lamp to my feet, and a light to my paths”, but there’s little fear of that being found in a modern Catholic school – except for “judge ye not”, of course.

One source supplies that “the true promise of “light in Masonry” is the return of man unsullied to the pure source of his being.” This is in addition to the more common explanation of a movement from darkness to light representing the journey from a place of ignorance to Gnostic illumination.

At this point, I should issue a disclaimer: the following is completely hypothetical and in no way meant to invite litigious scrutiny of this author’s work. It is simply the kind of pastime one indulges in during the festive season.

Back to the world of speculation.

The new MACS “brand colours” are blue (although it looks black) and golden yellow, which several sources admit are significant for Masons. Interestingly, yellow and blue, albeit a lighter blue, were used in the logo for the 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan.

As seen above, the explanation of the colour “Golden Light” includes a reference to the light shining through the windows of the Melbourne Cathedral. (Archbishop Comensoli referenced that light in his sermon at Kimberly Kitching’s funeral. He also gave a very “illuminating” Christmas speech last year.)

According to one colour expert, gold represents the sun, so beloved of pagans and Masons, while blue represents the symbolic “Blue Lodge”, where the first three degrees of Freemasonry: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason. Our expert tells us that “blue means special, sacred, wisdom, or perfection.” He says that when these colours are found together, “… they represent the sky, sun, and stars. Blue and gold also have significance related to gods and deities. That’s why the colours are sometimes seen together in Masonic rings, aprons, and other accessories.”

In fact, another commentator explains that yellow and blue were first recorded as having been worn by Freemasons in 1730.

The logo itself shows the familiar triangle. In the occult world, the triangle can symbolise the transformation of darkness into light, thus the presence of this geometrical figure seems to confirm the occult meaning behind the logo and “manifesto”. It also represents the “magical” number three, and when pointing up, may represent the sun, which is worshipped by many of those who like to conceal the true meanings of their symbols.

In addition to the tribute to the number three is the use of the number four. As a friend points out in a previous article, “functions of four” are a common occult motif. It is possible to see in this logo the four arms of the cross, which separate the light into four sectors, as well as four triangles – or “pathways”, as the logo is meant to represent – along the bottom. Altogether this provides the four-cubed code for Mother Earth.

The numbers three and four together make seven: occultists represent man’s union with the divine with this mystical number. Three, four and seven are also highly significant for Freemasons, and the square-and-compass features this combination.

For further comparison, to the right is the logo for the esoteric group, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a version of which Aleister Crowley was once a member. Curious.

When one takes the time to look with a critical – some would say, cynical – outlook, a new and subtle meaning can be inferred: under the auspices of Gaia, Catholic children will journey from their Baptismal “ignorance” along the path to humanistic “enlightenment.”

Which is precisely what the Catholic school system has been pushing for the last seventy years.
